Ming Wong’s new installation at the Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo

Check out the new video installation Me in Me by Singaporean artist based in Berlin, Ming Wong!

Inspired by three epochs of Japanese cinema, “Jidai-geki (historical),” “Gendai-geki (modern),” and “Anime,” in his installation Me in Me, Ming uses the distinctive styles and narrative-settings of these three cinematic worlds to express representative aspects of Japanese film. Thereby he juxtaposes gender constructions and politics in tradition such as the one of Kabuki female impersonators and its relationship between moving and speaking in Japanese performing arts.

For the part of Jidai-geki, I helped him to choreograph his dance/acting movement!
